Government school students explore the Vaccine Depot urban forest, Belagavi.

On World Environment Day, the Tejomarg Foundation led 62 government school students on an immersive, hands-on day of ecological learning inside the historic Vaccine Depot — pairing classroom lessons with the living ecosystem around them.

World Environment Day 2026

To mark World Environment Day on 5th June 2026, the Tejomarg Foundation organised an immersive, hands-on environmental awareness programme at the historic Vaccine Depot in Belagavi. The event brought together 62 enthusiastic students from classes 5 to 8 of Government High School, Rani Channamma Nagar, Belagavi, for a day of practical ecological learning.

A guided walk through living ecology

The occasion was graced by an esteemed panel of dignitaries, including chief guest Mr. Ramnath Nayak, renowned botanist Dr. Santosh Jayagouda, Mrs. J.P. Patel (Taluka Officer from the BEO), and Mr. Mahesh M of the Tejomarg Foundation, alongside school teachers.

During the event, Dr. Santosh Jayagouda led the students on a guided nature walk, explaining the rich variety of flora and fauna preserved within the Vaccine Depot and its vital importance to the local ecosystem, while Mr. Mahesh Mathad explored the plantations and coordinated the field activities.

Practical lessons for everyday life

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ramnath Nayak shared valuable insights on practical ways to protect and preserve our environment in daily life. Mrs. J.P. Patel thanked the Tejomarg Foundation for moving beyond traditional textbook learning to provide such an impactful, experiential session for the children.

Following the educational activities, a nutritious meal was served to all the participating students, which was generously sponsored by Mr. Ulhas Keshav Shanbhag of Udaya Bhavan Hotel.
